Mark your calendar … the Great American Smokeout is November 15. If you’ve thought about quitting smoking but haven’t picked a date yet, or if you’ve tried before and are ready to commit to making the change for good, November 15 is a perfect time to start living a better life!

Veterans can talk with their primary care or mental health provider to learn about the FDA-approved medications and behavioral counseling options available.

The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System also holds tobacco cessation groups in Muskogee and Tulsa to help you quit.

Ramona McLemore, a VA Social Worker who facilitates the Muskogee Tobacco Cessation group, said having a support system is key to successfully quit smoking.

“Not only do Veterans get information and motivation to get started, but they get the support of their peers,” she said. “I know it’s challenging to take that first step, but we have a supportive and encouraging environment to help Veterans achieve their goal of becoming tobacco-free.”

To enroll in a Tobacco Cessation Group, please call 888-397-8387.
