MRI increases Hours to serve more Veterans
Thursday, June 7, 2018The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) Suite at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center has increased its hours for non-contrast MRI studies to better serve our Veterans.
During Monday to Friday, MRI hours have increased from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, the MRI Suite is now offering Saturday appointments from 8 a.m. to noon.
New MRI hours:
Monday-Friday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to noon
Along with increased convenience and flexibility for Veterans, the MRI Suite will be able to increase access by serving approximately 22 more Veterans per week.
“The demand for MRI services greatly exceeded our capacity that existed during normal work hours,” said Dr. Daniel Roswig, Chief of the Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Service. “The new hours are a win-win for our Veteran population. In most cases, the Veterans are more comfortable receiving their medical services through the VA, and we have also observed that the quality of our MRI imaging is frequently superior to what is provided on the outside.”
The MRI Suite is not adding additional staff to accommodate the increased hours. Instead, staff worked with Radiology leadership to develop a new work schedule.
“We asked the MRI staff to be active participants in the planning of this initative,” said Dr. Roswig. “To their credit, everyone was committed to doing what was right for the Veterans. It’s testimony to the dedication of the people who work here that they are willing to set aside some of their personal considerations to make it possible to improve access to MRI services.”
The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center began offering on-site MRI services for the first time in December 2013 in a newly constructed MRI Suite, located at the North end of the medical center.
Patients can access the MRI Suite from inside the medical center by Prosthetics Service or from outside through the suite’s own entrance at the North end of the building. Veterans who have questions about their MRI appointment should call the medical center at 918-577-3989
