The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center is now offering a shuttle service for Veteran patients and visitors, which provides transportation to and from patient parking lots to medical center entrances.

Coordinated by Voluntary Service, a VA volunteer will shuttle Veterans and visitors from parking lots using a six-passenger “people mover” Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“Our goal is to improve the Veteran’s overall experience beginning from the time their car is parked to the time they depart the facility,” said Associate Director Bryan Matthews.  “This is in conjunction with our newly implemented Green Jacket program where ambassadors personally welcome our Veterans to the medical center and escort them to their appointment if requested.  These are a few of the many improvements aimed at improving the total experience for our patients and their families.”

In addition to improving customer service, the “people mover” service will also increase safety for our Veterans by reducing the number of injuries and falls.

On May 9, Air Force Veterans Marvin Schmidt and France Reitz, were the first two Veterans to take advantage of the new shuttle service.

“It will help the Veterans, because some of them can’t walk very well,” said Schmidt.  “This will be a good thing for them.  Most definitely it will help.”
