VA’s Veterans Appointment Request (VAR) App is Now Available
February 27, 2017
Allows Veterans to Manage Their Medical Appointments
Veterans can now schedule their own appointments online via the web-based Veteran Appointment Request (VAR) app. Veterans have the option of accessing VAR from any device with an internet connection, including their desktops, smartphones or tablets.
“The VAR app helps VA make good on its promises to improve access to Veteran care,” said Kathleen L. Frisbee, PhD, MPH, Executive Director, Connected Health, VHA Office of Connected Care. “This app increases VA’s transparency and puts health care at the fingertips of Veterans who want an alternate way to connect with their VA health care.”
VAR makes it possible for Veterans to self-schedule primary care appointments and request assistance in booking both primary care and mental health appointments at the VA facilities where they receive care.
In addition, Veterans can use the app to:
• See appointment details
• Track the status of requests
• Send messages about the requested appointments
• Get email confirmations about appointments
• Cancel most appointments, including all appointments made through the app
Through VAR, Veterans can designate preferred times and dates for appointments at facilities where they have a Patient Aligned Care Team. The ability to submit a request at any time of day can help Veterans in monitoring their overall health appointments online.
VA is continuing to expand VAR’s functionality to include additional specialty services in the future, including audiology, optometry and more. Enhancements to VAR will be made with small changes over time, but the ultimate goal is to give Veterans a powerful tool that will provide them increased control in scheduling appointments and offer another option for patients to schedule appointments beyond calling the local VA facility to speak with a scheduler.
VAR is available on the VA App Store at mobile.va.gov/app/veteran-appointment-request and includes information on how to use the app.
