VA Medical Center Earns Canteen of the Year

June 17, 2010

The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center will celebrate its cafeteria and retail store being named Canteen of the Year on June 15 at 1:30 p.m. in the Auditorium.

The medical center’s Canteen is one of 18 in the Department of Veterans Affairs that will receive the award for its 27.55 percent increase in total sales for 2009, as well as the largest sales increase without food renovation for 2009 (33.29% increase).  Also included in the criteria were outstanding retail and food accountability figures and high ratings by the medical center director and visits from VA’s Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) personnel.

VCS operates 172 canteens at VA medical centers across the country as a self-sustaining business at no cost to America's taxpayers. Every dollar of income generated by VCS is returned to the medical centers to help improve the quality of life for Veteran patients and to improve the quality of the workplace for VA employees.
