VA Medical Center to Provide Credit Monitoring for 537 Veterans

April 13, 2011

The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center (JCMVAMC) is notifying and offering one year of free credit monitoring to 537 Veterans whose personal information was improperly disclosed to a federal judge by a former VA employee.

The affected Veterans had been seen in the Nutrition Dietetics Clinic at the Ernest Childers VA Outpatient Clinic in Tulsa during the months of October 2008 through February 2009.

“While this was an isolated incident, any time a Veteran’s personal information may be compromised, we take the matter very seriously,” said Medical Center Director Brian Hawkins.

Veterans who were affected have received an individual letter explaining the disclosure and steps they need to take to register for the free credit monitoring.

Although there is no indication that the personal information has been misused or stolen, JCMVAMC believes it is important to fully inform Veterans of any potential risk to them.

For more information concerning the credit monitoring, contact Wanda Logan, Privacy Officer, at (918) 577-3635.
