Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System facilities to go smoke-free on October 1, 2019 - As part of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) commitment to provide excellent health care for Veterans, VA will implement a new policy restricting smoking by employees, patients, visitors, volunteers, contractors and vendors at its health care facilities on Oct. 1, 2019. VA to hold Flu Shot Clinics Sept. 30 – Oct. 4 - The Jack C. New Urgent Care Benefit for Veterans - Many Veterans have already started taking advantage of the community care benefit of the MISSION Act that went into effect on June 6. VA Office of Inspector General Report Released - During the week of May 16-20, 2016, the VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducted a healthcare inspection in response to Sen. James Inhofe’s request to evaluate a range of clinical, staffing, and administrative practices at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System (EOVAHCS) in Muskogee, OK. At Sen. Inhofe’s request, OIG coordinated this review with The Joint Commission (TJC). The scope included extensive review of EOVAHCS data, actions, and practices in FY 2015 and quarters 1–3 of FY 2016. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, Okla., was recently recognized as a top performer on key health care quality measures for 2012 by The Joint Commission, an independent panel that accredits and certifies health care organizations. World War II Veteran Who Witnessed Iwo Jima Flag Raising to Speak at POW/MIA Day Ceremony - The Jack C. VA Hires Over 1,600 Mental Health Professionals to Meet Goal - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that it has met the goal to hire 1,600 new mental health professionals outlined in President Obama’s August 31, 2012, Executive Order to Improve Access to Mental Health Services for Veterans, Service Members, and Military Families. The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center has hired 12 new mental health professionals toward this goal. (06/12/2013)

Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team Coming to Muskogee - The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) is coming to Muskogee to play two exhibition games on May 4 at Love-Hatbox Field. The event is free and open to the public. (05/04/2013)

VA Medical Center Begins New Medical Foster Home Program - The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center is pleased to announce the development of a new Medical Foster Home (MFH) Program, which gives eligible Veterans the option of living in a family setting when they can no longer stay in their own home (09/26/2012)

Former German Prisoner of War to Visit Muskogee, Camp Gruber and VA - Former German Prisoner of War (POW) Frank Mays, who was held as a POW at Camp Gruber in Oklahoma during World War II, will make a return visit to Camp Gruber and also visit Muskogee Sept. 13-14. (09/13/2012)

VA Medical Center Tailors Plan to Expand Mental Health Staff - Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki recently announced the department would add approximately 1,600 mental health clinicians as well as nearly 300 support staff to its existing workforce. VA estimates that 12 clinicians and two support personnel will be hired to support mental health operations at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center. (06/12/2012)

Local Veteran Competes in 26th National Veterans Golden Age Games - This week over 900 Veterans who served during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War will compete in the 26th National Veterans Golden Age Games in St. Louis, Mo., May 30 – June 5. (05/30/2012)

Veterans Affairs Tailors Plan to Expand Mental Health Staff - JACKSON, MS – Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki recently announced the department would add approximately 1,600 mental health clinicians as well as nearly 300 support staff to its existing workforce. As part of this announcement, 202 clinicians and 39 support personnel will be hired to support local mental health operations in VA’s South Central VA Health Care Network (VISN 16), which encompasses VA facilities in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. VA Medical Center to Break Ground on New MRI Facility - The Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center (JCMVAMC) will hold a ground- breaking ceremony for a $1.4 million magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facility on Oct. 3.
